We worked in the town of Nazareth, PA on a replacement project for UGI Utilities direct burying 8″ HDPE pipe. This job was sawcut ahead of time and all gas services and main were found via vacuum excavation before trenching began. With this install we are uprating the system from LP (low pressure) to MP (medium pressure) 60 PSI. Our great crews in PA are hand digging to locate and spot a buried sewer lateral before machine excavation.
In 2022, Skoda Contracting was trusted with the Oxford-Independence Interconnect Project. Engineered as a system improvement, the project consisted of installing 25,810’ of 8” high pressure gas main to improve delivery for Elizabethtown Gas customers in the region. Skoda Contracting’s ability to communicate proved vital as the project spanned three municipalities and Warren County roadways. While installing 8” steel in rocky soil conditions can present its own challenges, a particular creek crossing proved to be the crux of the project. After unsuccessful attempts at rock boring under the creek, Skoda Contracting was key in proposing and facilitating an easement agreement that allowed the gas main to be installed via open trench saving our client time and added construction expenses. Another great team effort by Skoda Contracting.
Were replacing the existing 4″ LP CI main with 4′ EP PE main on Main St, Woodbridge for Elizabethtown Gas. ETG required the project to be completed at night due to the congestion of traffic in the area. Service replacement will follow once introduction of gas on newly installed main in complete. In the pictures, you can see the crew locating live gas services before the new gas main is installed. The crew successfully installed 1500′ of 2″&4″ PE main along with tie-ins to introduce gas into the new main.
In 2022-2023 SKODA Contracting replaced the majority of the Firewater system at Washington Gas’s Ravensworth Plant in Virginia. The project was broken into 2 phases consisting of replacing a total of 3,000′ of 8″ Cast Iron water lines with 8″ HDPE , 37 valves, and 9 fire hydrants. SKODA completed the project without impacting the planes multiple operating systems through our diligence working around the intricacies of the unique infrastructure of the plant as shown in the photo.
Skoda Contracting is pleased to announce a joint venture with Cranford Gas Light to meet the most recent changes of the New Jersey Administrative Code. The joint venture is called CGL2 LLC and will do business as Cranford Gas Light. The company was formed through a partnership with the Skoda Contracting executive team, John Fleming and Wayne Williamson of Cranford Gas Light. The new company will be based in Roselle, NJ and aims to serve gas utility customers with the gas house line installation, appliance relights and maintenance, in-to-out meter moves, and multi-meter design and installation.
On a daily basis, trained, professional, Skoda Contracting Pipe Men, in all Skoda Divisions, assess and take action on potentially life threatening situations as they work.
From January 2017 to the present, Skoda Contracting’s Washington, DC workforce has been the primary emergency service replacement contractor for Washington Gas’s Maryland territories. Skoda’s Gas Utility Workers use supplied air to ensure they are safe while repairing leaking gas infrastructure. This service, coupled with the work Skoda performs for Washington Gas’s proactive replacement programs, helps make the Washington, DC area a safer place to live and work.
From September 2017 to September 2018 three Skoda Contracting replacement crews completed two large scale cast iron replacement projects for Elizabethtown Gas in Fanwood, NJ. In total the crews installed 29,447 LF of 2″ PE gas main, 10,705 LF of 4″ PE gas main, 1937 LF of 6′ PE gas main and 870 gas services. Additionally, the crews abandon 54,007 LF of cast iron gas main. The projects were completed as part of ETG’s accelerated replacement program under their blanket replacement projects. Skoda modernized Elizabethtown Gas’s infrastructure by replacing all cast iron from their system with modern wrapped steel and polyethylene piping.
In the fall of 2018 Skoda Contracting was awarded a job by Elizabethtown Gas to cut in a 10 inch valve on their Gilbert One 850 psi transmission pipeline. TD Williamson stopple fittings were welded to the pipeline so that a section of the pipeline could be shut down and a valve could be cut in. This valve will be needed in the future to perform a smart pig investigation to determine the structural integrity of the Gilbert One Pipeline. Skoda Contracting, with the assistance of ETG personnel, handled every aspect of the project including welding, stopping, cutting, purging out and re-introducing gas to the pipeline.
In January of 2017 Skoda Contracting completed -13,500 LF of 12″ High Pressure Steel main installation for Elizabethtown Gas in High Bridge, New Jersey. The project included an open cut crossing of an NJ Transit Railroad, installation of a temporary coffer dam of an environmentally sensitive waterway and a final connection tie-in on NJDOT Highway 31. The project was completed by Skoda ahead of schedule and under budget despite snowy conditions, extensive rock break and -550 vertical feet of elevation change.
Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based AGL Resources (NYSE: ATG) recently honored Skoda Contracting Co. as the Contractor of the Year for its “culture of excellence” in installing natural gas mains and services, the facilities that deliver the fuel to homes and businesses.
Mark Daly was given an “emergency” job from lan Azar for approximately 1900’ of 2” EP PE main and 37 service transfers. lan asked for Skoda to call emergency mark-outs and start the job immediately. The forecast was calling for snow Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Put out to bid as a night job, the 7,000′ of 8″ pressure reinforcement main on South Avenue, State Route 28, in Fanwood, NJ, would have the usual problems associated with working at night. As a night project, this bid created problems much more difficult to deal with than just thick blacktop, concrete, traffic and lighting.
Skoda Foreman, Steven Csiszlak approached a home owner getting into her car to schedule the replacement of her natural gas service on Marshall Street in Phillipsburg, NJ for Elizabethtown Gas Company. She told him that she had been smelling gas in the house since her plumber did some furnace piping a few days prior.
